Hi there! My name is Nevin (she/her), and I’m a doctoral student in the Second Language Acquisition program at UW–Madison. I’m originally from Istanbul, Turkey, where I began my teaching journey over 11 years ago. Since then, I’ve taught in a variety of settings, including language instruction and English 100. I also had the opportunity to serve as a Fulbright Language Teaching Assistant—a deeply meaningful chapter in my teaching path. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature and a Master’s degree in Women’s Studies, as well as a Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. My research interests include language ideologies, heritage languages, and the emotional dimensions of language teaching and learning. Outside of academics, I enjoy knitting, doing yoga, cycling, and spending time outdoors with friends. One of my favorite places in Madison is the Memorial Union Terrace. If you ever see me there by the lake—reading, chatting, or just enjoying the breeze—feel free to say hi!
