Heidi Evans

I’m a Distinguished Teaching Professor and the Associate Director of our program. I’m a first‑generation college graduate with a BA in English and History and an MA in Applied English Linguistics from UW–Madison. After finishing my degrees, I taught at English language institutes in Wisconsin and then spent eight years in Japan teaching in undergraduate and graduate university settings, as well as in community and workplace English programs. I’ve also been a teacher trainer in WESLI’s Teacher Training Program and have led professional workshops across Southeast Asia, Europe, the United States, Australia, and for a Wisconsin nonprofit. At UW–Madison, I teach academic skills courses for undergraduate and graduate students, along with courses in the TESOL Certificate Program. Most of all, I’m excited to work with students and help them build their English skills and their sense of confidence and belonging here at the UW.
